The High School Mathematics Teacher is responsible for delivering high-quality, standards-based instruction that builds students’ understanding of mathematical concepts, reasoning, and problem-solving skills in grades 9–12. The teacher helps students develop confidence and competence in applying mathematics to academic work and real-world situations.
Essential Responsibilities
- Plan, prepare, and deliver standards-based instruction aligned with district and state requirements
- Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse academic, social, and emotional needs of students
- Assess student learning through a variety of formal and informal methods and use data to guide instruction
- Provide timely, meaningful feedback to students and communicate progress to families as needed
- Maintain accurate records of attendance, grades, and student performance
- Implement effective classroom management strategies that promote respect, responsibility, and engagement
- Collaborate with colleagues to support instructional planning and student success
- Integrate technology and instructional resources to enhance teaching and learning
- Participate in staff meetings, professional development, and school improvement initiatives
- Support school-wide programs, events, and extracurricular activities as appropriate
Qualifications
- Valid Michigan teaching certificate with appropriate secondary endorsement(s)
- Bachelor’s degree in Education or content-related field
- Strong knowledge of subject area content and instructional best practices
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with students, families, and staff
- Previous experience with math instruction preferred.
- Must meet NCLB Highly Qualified Requirements.
- Possess knowledge of differentiated instruction practices and strategies.
- Possess strong classroom management skills.
- Possess extensive knowledge in technology, use of technology in the classroom and the ability to incorporate technology in the curriculum.
